Brentford shot-stopper and Tottenham Hotspur target David Raya attracting interest from La Liga
David Raya, who plays for Premier League rivals Brentford, is being eyed by top teams in La Liga amidst links to Tottenham Hotspur, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t The Sun].
Apart from Spurs, in the English top flight, Manchester United also have the 27-year-old on their radar. However, the shot-stopper has also ‘attracted interest’ from clubs in his native country.
The teams in Spain are willing to wait until Raya’s current contract, which runs until the summer of 2024, with the Bees expires. The goalkeeper has already rejected two new deals from the West London club.
Therefore, we will seemingly have to accelerate our plans to get a hold of the 27-year-old. However, Brentford boss Thomas Frank has admitted that they will want at least £40 million to part ways with their shot-stopper.
At the moment, David de Gea is the number one at United. The 32-year-old has been impressive over the last two seasons at the Old Trafford side. However, the Spaniard is backed up by Tom Heaton and Jack Butland.
As for Tottenham, we have Hugo Lloris in between the sticks. The French national has been Spurs’ first choice for over a decade. Unfortunately, in recent years, the 36-year-old’s performances have deteriorated.
The 2018 World Cup winner joined the North London side from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has gone on to captain the Lilywhites. But the shot-stopper is evidently coming to the end of his playing career.
In the summer of 2022, Tottenham got Fraser Forster to bolster the goalkeeping ranks. In Lloris’ absence, the English national put in some decent displays. But the 35-year-old is also approaching the twilight of his career.

Therefore, we seemingly need to find the right goalkeeper to succeed Lloris at Spurs. Raya has consistently performed well since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League. But it remains to be seen whether interest from back home affects the 27-year-old’s decision.
