Danny Rose backs Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane to break Alan Shearer’s long-standing goals record

Former Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose has backed his ex-teammate Harry Kane to break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record.

Shearer currently holds the record for the most goals scored in Premier League history, with 260 to his name. He made his name playing for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers and is fondly remembered by England fans as one of the country’s greatest-ever strikers.

Kane is operating on a different level in the meantime. He is England’s all-time leading goal-scorer and Tottenham’s record goalscorer as well. One big milestone that evades him is the 260 goals record.

Rose, who played 154 games alongside Kane for Spurs’ academy and senior teams as well as the England national team, has showered the 29-year-old with praise and told FourFourTwo (h/t Football.London):

“Harry’s heading, goalscoring and penalty record are simply phenomenal, and he has the professionalism, ambition and hunger to match. I just hope he wins some silverware – and at Tottenham. He’ll overtake Alan Shearer’s Premier League goal record, and it’d be great if he also bagged a trophy or two.”

Kane’s contract expires in the summer of 2024 and he has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Spurs fans would have comforted themselves by thinking that Kane could stay in N17 for a long time so he can at least break Shearer’s record.

He has, after all, come too far not to break it. But that sense of comfort is evaded by the fact that there are teams in England who can use his services. Manchester United are one of them.

Kane currently has 206 goals from 312 Premier League games to his name. He needs 57 to break that record and unless he goes absolutely goal-crazy next season, he won’t be able to do it before his current deal expires in 2024.

If he stays in England, there is absolutely nothing stopping him from shattering Shearer’s record. He can even become the first player to touch the 300 goals mark.
