Tottenham desperately want to sign Napoli star Alex Meret
According to NapoliCalcioLive, Tottenham Hotspur are desperately pursuing a move for Napoli goalie Alex Meret as their long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris.
It’s no secret that Lloris has been a huge player for Tottenham over the years. The Frenchman has been one of their club captains and has produced many amazing moments in between the sticks.
Meret, who is 26 years old, has had a fantastic season in Serie A. He is a huge reason for Napoli being first in the league, having managed to keep 13 clean sheets and only concede 21 goals in 28 games.
It’s no surprise that Tottenham are interested in Meret, as he would bring a fresh new face to their squad and provide some healthy competition for Lloris. The report suggests that Spurs are ‘determined to focus’ on Meret and that he is their number one target.
The Italian club is currently on track to win the league and will also have Champions League football next season. This could make it difficult for Spurs to secure Meret’s services, as he may be reluctant to leave a club that is performing so well.
Despite this, Tottenham will undoubtedly be looking at a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. They need to find someone who can provide competition for Lloris, as well as potentially replace him in the long term.
Tottenham are no strangers to signing players from Italy. When former manager Antonio Conte and former director Fabio Paratici were in charge of the club, they had the habit of securing players from Serie A.
Meret will be a great addition but we must wait for the new manager and see what his ideas for the club are. He might want a keeper who is much more adept at playing out from the back than the Napoli keeper might be.
