Tottenham Hotspur star Ivan Perisic re-joining Inter Milan in swap deal involving Stefan de Vrij ‘not impossible’
Ivan Perisic said goodbye to Inter Milan in the summer of 2022 to join Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
One can’t deny that the Italian tactician, with whom Perisic won the Scudetto at Inter in the 2020-21 season, was an important factor in his move to Spurs. He signed the Croatia international at a time when we already had Sergio Reguilon, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies on our books.
Conte is now no longer at Spurs. Perisic, 34, continues to have relevance in the team in the Cristian Stellinie era, but a return to Inter Milan hasn’t been ruled out.
A report by Italian outlet InterLive.it details how Perisic rejoining I Nerazzurri in a swap deal involving soon-to-be out-of-contract centre-back Stefan de Vrij is ‘not impossible. That sounds like a brilliant deal for us if it happens.
Spurs should be all over this deal
The Netherlands international is set to become a free agent this summer (Transfermarkt). If that is the case, why should we even bother to return Perisic to Inter? Why not just keep him and sign De Vrij as a free agent?
If adding Perisic to a swap deal gives us some sort of an advantage with regards to gaining access to De Vrij’s attention from Inter’s side, then we shouldn’t think twice about it.
Sooner or later, Perisic is going to start declining and we will need someone else to succeed him at left wing-back. if he can be of use to us in the short term, then so be it.
His contract anyway expires at the end of next season. De Vrij, meanwhile, will add much-needed experience and defensive ability at the back. The 31-year-old is one of the finest centre-backs around.

He can read danger in advance, physically outmuscle his opponents and provide aerial surety at both ends of the pitch. His age can be an issue but he still has a number of years left in those legs. There is no reason why we shouldn’t be all over this potential deal.
