Fabrizio Romano opens up on Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of James Maddison
In his column for CaughtOffside, popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
Both Tottenham and Newcastle United have been showing a strong interest in the young star for quite some time now. Newcastle made two bids for Maddison, but both were rejected as they failed to meet Leicester’s valuation of £60 million.
However, with Maddison’s contract set to expire in 2024 (transfermarkt) and Leicester fighting to avoid relegation from the Premier League, interested parties may have an opportunity to negotiate a better deal this summer.
According to Romano, Tottenham are indeed keeping an eye on Maddison’s situation, but they will not make a bid for him until they have decided on their next manager. He would be a great option for the club.
In his column, here is what the popular journalist had to say about Tottenham’s pursuit of Maddison
“Tottenham are monitoring James Maddison for sure, also Newcastle have his name on their list since last August as he’s always been appreciated. We have to understand who’s going to be the new Tottenham boss to see if they will bid for Maddison, as at the moment it’s on stand-by.”
Tottenham’s need for an attacking midfielder has been evident throughout the season, and signing Maddison could address that issue immediately. The midfielder’s impressive record speaks for itself.
One of the most exciting aspects of a potential move for Maddison to Tottenham is the prospect of his partnership with Harry Kane. The two Englishmen have already displayed their understanding of each other’s game during the recent England game against Ukraine.
Maddison’s creativity and ability to unlock defences could be the key to unlocking the full potential of Kane, who has been linked with a move away from Tottenham in recent months. The Englishman will be perfect.
