Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson warns Tottenham Hotspur over Alex Scott interest
Tottenham Hotspur are one of the clubs supposedly linked with a move for Bristol City starlet Alex Scott.
As per the Daily Mail (h/t BristolLive), Liverpool, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also interested in the 19-year-old midfielder. Despite his young age, Scott has featured in 44 games across competitions this season, scoring twice and assisting five goals.
He largely plays as a central midfielder but can also play as a wide midfielder as well as in the No. 10 role. His manager, Nigel Pearson, would undoubtedly be glad to have such a player on his books.
He is also aware that there are clubs that would be interested in the Guernsey-born midfielder. To that effect, Pearson has sent a mixed message to the player’s suitors.
He recently said:
“Alex Scott for instance as a point of conversation, every player has a price. It will have to be one hell of a bid for him to go. I can assure you that Steve (Lansdown) – he doesn’t want to sell players for the sake of it. It’s not about that.
“I think Alex Scott’s had two really good Championship seasons for us which is remarkable to say he’s only 19 and he’s been one of our most successful and consistent players but for somebody to get him away from here is going to cost a fortune so we’re not going to undersell ourselves at all. And that’s why it’s important to get young players on long contracts.”
The former Leicester City manager basically kept talking about how Bristol City don’t have to urgently sell a player to balance their books as they are financially stable due to placing their trust in young academy players.
But it is clear from those comments that his team would be open to a payday if a suitor makes a big bid. In the current market, where young players are going for a fortune, Bristol would of course be licking their lips at the prospect of earning a big sum from Scott.
They would be in touch with reality to realise they cannot offer the teenager what a club like Spurs can. We are a Premier League mainstay fighting for trophies and always in and around the top-four spot.
Scott will only have two years left on his contract after the end of this season (Transfermarkt). His ambitions should surely be more than playing for a team 13th in England’s second division. If he can force through a move, then his potential suitors, including Spurs, would fancy a deal for a reasonable fee.

Bristol City may not be forced to sell players to balance their books, but they cannot ward off big clubs for too long if their players get ambitious.
