Journo says Hugo Lloris ‘knows’ Tottenham Hotspur want to replace him
Hugo Lloris has been with Tottenham Hotspur since he signed from Olympique Lyonnais in the summer of 2012.
He has become a living legend for the club since then despite not winning a trophy with us. All good things must come to an end and some fans would think that Lloris’ reign as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper should have come a couple of years ago.
He is currently 36 years old and called time on his international career with France after the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Essentially, his playing career is coming to an end but his deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium runs until next year.
According to journalist Dean Jones, Lloris is aware that Tottenham are looking to replace him. He told GiveMeSport exclusively:
“Spurs have been contemplating his future for a little while now and Lloris knows the situation. Everything comes to an end at some point, it’s just a case of finding the right guy to replace him and making sure that you can do that.
“Initially, will it be that Tottenham bring in somebody to try and go head-to-head with him? Or is it an immediate replacement?I think that’s quite a big thing for them to contemplate.”
Alex Meret of Napoli is just one of the names linked with Spurs. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to be able to tell Sputs need a new goalkeeper.
Lloris is 36 and can leave as a free agent in the summer of 2024 – that is, of course, there. But apart from that, the former Lyon man has been sloppy in goal and seems to be on the decline.
His distribution hasn’t really impressed either and it is about time we freshen things up at the back. We are yet to appoint a new manager after Antonio Conte’s departure.
