Son Heung-min hopes to score more goals after equalling Jermain Defoe’s Tottenham Hotspur record
Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min hopes to score more goals after equalling the record set by former striker for the North London side Jermain Defoe.
The ex-forward scored 143 goals for Spurs in all competitions during his various stints for us. After finding the back of the net in the 3-2 defeat to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday (15 April), the South Korean is now joint sixth in our all-time goalscorers list.
Speaking to the Evening Standard, Son hopes to add to his tally in the coming years at Tottenham. The 30-year-old is aiming to climb higher on the list. If his comments are read by an optimistic Spurs fan, then it could hint at the fact that Son sees himself playing in N17 for the foreseeable future.
“I think I’ve got a few more years to play yet, so I will try to keep scoring more goals. I want to go a little bit higher, so I will do my best.”
The South Korean joined Spurs in the summer of 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen. Over the years, the forward has been one of the best players at the North London side.
In the previous campaign, Son enjoyed his best season in terms of numbers. The South Korean shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Unfortunately, over the last few months, the 30-year-old has not enjoyed the best of spells at the Lilywhites. We have, as a whole, failed to make an impact under Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini.
Harry Kane has been the only reliable attacker in the team. The England international recently broke Jimmy Greaves’ tally to become Tottenham’s leading goalscorer.
Son has a long way to go to match the 29-year-old’s feat. However, the South Korean is just 16 goals behind Cliff Jones in the charts.
