Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Luis Enrique an ‘outsider’ for Chelsea job
Luis Enrique is now seen as an ‘outsider’ for the managerial role at Chelsea amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the Spaniard, according to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t Express].
The former head coach of La Roja is no longer a major contender to be appointed in the Blues’ dugout after the dismissal of Graham Potter and the arrival of Frank Lampard on an interim basis.
Spurs have also been linked with the 52-year-old. The North London side are also looking for someone to take charge of the team after parting ways with Antonio Conte. The Italian’s right-hand man Cristia Stellini is taking charge of the Lilywhites for the time being.
Chelsea now have their eyes set on either former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann or former Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Spurs have ‘made moves’ to get a hold of Enrique now that the Stamford Bridge side are seemingly out of the race. But Daniel Levy has doubts regarding his lack of experience in the Premier League.
The 53-year-old has managed the likes of AS Roma and Barcelona in the past. At the Blaugrana, the Spaniard managed to win the treble in his first season in charge of the La Liga outfit.
Enrique was also impressive during his stint with Spain. La Roja played some impressive football during the ex-midfielder’s reign. However, the 2022 World Cup was a disappointment for them, being knocked out by Morocco in the round of 16.
At the moment, Stellini has not changed much at Spurs. The North London side are still struggling defensively and have slipped up a number of times in the bid to make it into the top four.

Therefore, it is high time that Tottenham find some stability and build a long-term project, as we had under Pochettino. Enrique is one of the best in the game. However, it remains to be seen what Levy will decide in the coming months.
