Chelsea ‘hold talks’ with Mauricio Pochettino amidst Tottenham Hotspur return links

Premier League rivals Chelsea have held talks with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to the Mirror.

As per a previous report in the Daily Mail, the North London side are one of the side’s eyeing the Argentina international’s appointment. However, the Blues are eyeing him as their new head coach.

Earlier in the campaign, the Stamford Bridge side parted ways with Graham Potter. Under the English gaffer, the West London club were unable to muster positive results.

Now, Frank Lampard has taken charge of Chelsea on an interim basis. In the meantime, the hierarchy at the Stamford Bridge side has decided to take their time in getting the right person to take charge of the Blues.

Pochettino, along with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, are the favourites to take the reins at the West London club as things stand.

The Argentine has a long and fruitful history with Tottenham. After taking charge of Spurs in the summer of 2014, he built and developed our squad, bringing through the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

Under the 51-year-old, we regularly made it into the top four. He also took the North London side to the Champions League final in the 2018/19 season. Unfortunately, we lost 2-0 to Liverpool.

Since Pochettino’s departure in 2019, there has been a revolving door regarding managers at Tottenham. The likes of Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte have been unable to bring stability to the club.

The Argentine did a good job at Spurs before and has garnered more experience with his stint at Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Ligue 1 title in the previous campaign. However, it remains to be seen whether our London rivals will appoint the 51-year-old in the coming months.
