West Ham United ‘strongly consider’ Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Paulo Fonseca

Premier League rivals West Ham United would ‘strongly consider’ appointing Tottenham Hotspur managerial target Paulo Fonseca, according to The Guardian (h/t Foot Mercato).

The Hammers are currently in a relegation battle in the English top flight. As a result, it is difficult to see David Moyes continuing in his post after the 2022/23 season.

As a result, the Irons are eyeing the LOSC Lille head coach to take charge of their team. They also have former Chelsea manager Graham Potter and former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers on their radar.

Fonseca made a name for himself in world football with his stint at Shakhtar Donetsk. In Ukraine, the Portuguese gaffer found success in the three seasons that he managed.

Subsequently, AS Roma came calling for the 50-year-old’s services in the summer of 2019. He had an overall underwhelming spell with the Giallorossi and eventually parted ways with the Serie A giants after two years.

Last summer, Fonseca was appointed as Lille’s head coach. The Portuguese tactician has done a decent job in his first spell with the Ligue 1 outfit. The French side have played possession-based, attacking football, catching a lot of people’s eyes.

Antonio Conte departed Tottenham recently. The Italian head coach struggled to find positive results at Spurs in the current campaign consistently.

For now, Cristian Stellini is in charge of the team. However, under the 48-year-old, the North London side have not done much better in terms of results. As a result, a place in the top four looks like a difficult objective to achieve.

The current campaign is a write-off for Tottenham. However, Daniel Levy needs to make a decision soon on who Spurs’ new boss will be. Fonseca has done well in France. But it remains to be seen whether the North London side will appoint him.
