Tottenham will not match the hefty wage demands of David de Gea
According to the Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur will not match the hefty wage demands of Manchester United goalie David de Gea and he is not an option to replace Hugo Lloris.
David de Gea has been one of the most consistent and reliable goalkeepers in the Premier League over the past decade. He has saved Manchester United on countless occasions with his quick reflexes and acrobatic dives, earning them points that they otherwise would have lost.
However, as the game of football evolves, so do the requirements for a top-quality goalkeeper, and unfortunately for de Gea, he may no longer meet those requirements. The Spaniard seems stuck somewhere.
As his contract with United comes to an end, the club and de Gea find themselves in a bit of a sticky situation. United are hesitant to renew his contract at the same high wages as before, while de Gea is reluctant to sign a new contract with lower wages and incentives.
The goalkeeper is also free to talk to other clubs, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of interest from top European teams. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper to replace their ageing captain Hugo Lloris.
Despite de Gea’s impressive track record, there is a growing sentiment among football experts that he is not as well-rounded as some of his contemporaries. His ability to command his area, for instance, has been called into question, and he seems to struggle with crosses and aerial balls.
These are skills that are increasingly important in the modern game, as teams are looking for keepers who can not only make spectacular saves but also control the game from the back, especially for possession-oriented teams.
Of course, this is not to say that de Gea is no longer a valuable asset to any team. He still possesses a wealth of experience and talent, and his shot-stopping abilities are still among the best in the league.
