“Toxic”- Football pundit in disbelief that Tottenham signed La Liga star last summer

Aston Villa set to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.

Tony Cascarino can’t believe Clement Lenglet joined Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona

Speaking on The Game football podcast, Tony Cascarino has claimed that he cannot believe Tottenham Hotspur signed Clement Lenglet from Barcelona at the beginning of this season.

The French defender was brought in on loan to bolster the club’s defensive depth, but his performances have been inconsistent and underwhelming. He did not really have a great time at Barcelona either.

Lenglet has made a few solid appearances for Spurs, but overall, his performances have been subpar. Cascarino feels that Tottenham should have signed a defender with more quality, especially given their current struggles at the back.

The former Chelsea striker believes that Tottenham’s decision to sign Lenglet is symptomatic of a larger problem at the club. The North London giants are struggling both on and off the pitch, with fans growing increasingly frustrated with the team’s performances.

Tottenham has one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League this season, and their vulnerabilities at the back have been exposed in recent matches. The likes of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez have been heavily criticised for their performances.

Tottenham’s recent defeat to Newcastle United has only added to the pressure on the club. The loss resulted in the departure of assistant manager Cristian Stellini, and Ryan Mason has now been put in charge on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Speaking about the situation, here is what Cascarino had to say about Tottenham signing Lenglet.

“You have the Harry Kane scenario and it’s a toxic football club at the moment. Fans had a go at Davinson Sanchez last week, but it was all about the football club”

“Against Newcastle they named four centre-halves on the bench, they knew they’d have a problem. Tanganga was on the bench, Davies was on the bench, Lenglet, I saw him at Barcelona, I couldn’t believe that he even joined Tottenham, I can’t believe they took him”

The club needs to focus on bringing in quality reinforcements in the summer transfer window, especially in the defensive department. Cristian Romero has been a reliable performer for Tottenham this season.
