Ryan Mason rules out Tottenham Hotspur star Hugo Lloris for Liverpool encounter
Ryan Mason has confirmed that Hugo Lloris will not be fit for Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League encounter against Liverpool on Sunday (April 30).
Lloris was substituted in our embarrassing 6-1 league defeat against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on April 23. He was substituted at halftime with the score at 5-0.
Some thought that it could have been in response to the Lilywhites conceding five goals within 21 minutes with Lloris in goal. Later, it was found out that it was a ‘muscle problem’ that forced the substitution.
Lloris was absent from goal in our 2-2 draw against Manchester United, where Fraser Forster played the full 90 months. Now, it has been confirmed that the 36-year-old will not play vs Liverpool too.
Not a very big blow
Interim manager Mason confirmed at his pre-match press conference, via Football.London:
“Hugo won’t be available for Sunday. Other injuries we’re assessing day by day.”
Lloris’ experience is unmatched. There is no denying that he is a very able leader who organises the defence pretty well in open-play and set-play situations.
But the fact is that he has been making errors. Lloris is no longer one of the world’s very best goalkeepers who captained France to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final (He even made a huge error in the final against Croatia).
Forster has been dependable in games that Lloris has missed this year. The 35-year-old Englishman has been surprisingly good in the former Lyon man’s absence. The problem for us, more often than not, has been with our defenders.

Hopefully, Mason picks the strongest possible team for this game rather than making odd experiments like Cristian Stellini did against the Magpies. A win against Liverpool here will effectively take them out of the top-four race.
