Tottenham Hotspur boss Ryan Mason says he is wary of Trent Alexander-Arnold threat vs Liverpool

Trent Alexander-Arnold is among a number of Liverpool players that can cause Tottenham Hotspur damage when the two teams meet next in the Premier League.

The Englishman, however, carries the extra threat of playing in a new position – something that Spurs haven’t experienced with him before. He has been playing as a midfielder during games under Jurgen Klopp.

This new role has caused teams problems, with the best example being his assist to Darwin Nunez in Liverpool’s 6-1 win against Leeds United. Asked how he plans to handle it on Sunday, interim manager Ryan Mason replied, via Football.London:

“Obviously we’re talking about an exceptional footballer but they’ve got many different players who can cause us problems. They’ve proven that over the years and we’re aware of that. The focus for us isn’t on one individual as it’s about stopping them as a team and also it’s about us acting as a team with the ball and hopefully hurting them as well.”

Alexander-Arnold’s passing ability is there for all to see. But Klopp has started to play him in a role where he is even more effective when his team, and when he is in his possession.

The Reds also have the likes of Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah to finish the chances up front. Of course, this will be a tough game. They showed against Manchester United in that 7-0 game at Anfield that they can tear top teams apart.

But if we show the same desire and vigour that we did in the second half of our latest 2-2 league draw against Manchester United, then we should be just fine. This game also has the potential to end either Spurs or Liverpool’s top-four hopes once and for all this season.
