Dean Jones warns Tottenham about letting Harry Kane leave for free
Speaking to Give Me Sport, Dean Jones has warned Tottenham Hotspur about being careful and not letting Harry Kane leave for free, especially to a rival club.
Tottenham Hotspur are facing an uncertain future with regards to their star player, Harry Kane. With the striker’s contract set to expire next summer, the club could lose their most valuable asset for free if they do not take swift action.
Kane has been a crucial player for Spurs over the years and has had many memorable moments. However, despite his individual brilliance, the club has failed to win any major silverware during his time at the club.
Several clubs, including Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, have been linked with the player. However, the Red Devils appear to be the most likely destination for the England striker.
While Kane’s desire to stay in England could be seen as an advantage for Tottenham, it also increases the risk of him joining a Premier League rival. Manchester United and Chelsea, in particular, have been touted as possible destinations for the striker.
The latter could become even more appealing if former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Stamford Bridge. After all, Kane played some of his best football under the Argentinian at N17.
However, Dean Jones has warned that allowing Kane to leave for free would be a massive mistake for Tottenham. Speaking to GiveMeSport, the transfer insider said
“I can understand if the new manager says they will only come if Kane is here and then Tottenham hope, in the meantime, they can somehow talk Kane into a new contract. I guess that’s a possibility. But it’s so risky to allow Harry Kane, your greatest goalscorer ever, to leave for one of your rivals for literally nothing.”
Jones’ comments are a stark reminder of the potential consequences of failing to secure Kane’s future. The striker is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world and losing him for free would be a huge setback for Tottenham.
Moreover, the financial implications of letting Kane leave for free would be significant. The club could sell the striker for as much as £100m this summer, which would provide much-needed funds for new signings and rebuilding the squad.
