Xabi Alonso to Tottenham Hotspur is on as Daniel Levy makes key decision

According to the Express, Xabi Alonso to Tottenham Hotspur is very much on with Daniel Levy willing to make key payments to secure the Spanish tactician.

While Ryan Mason has been appointed as an interim manager, the club’s top brass is looking for a permanent replacement who can take Tottenham back to their glory days. Alonso is considered a genuine option for the club.

Levy is prepared to pay Bayer Leverkusen the required compensation to lure Xabi Alonso to north London at the end of the season. He is said to have pinpointed the Spaniard as his preferred choice to replace Ryan Mason in the dugout.

Xabi Alonso is a Liverpool legend and one of the most decorated midfielders in football history. He has been making a name for himself in the coaching world, having taken charge of Real Sociedad’s B team before landing the Bayer Leverkusen job last year.

While Alonso has publicly stated that he isn’t interested in leaving his project in Leverkusen, reports suggest that ‘wheels are in motion’. The Spanish coach is keen to focus on his current job, but the prospect of managing Tottenham Hotspur may be too good to pass up.

If Tottenham Hotspur can convince Xabi Alonso to join the club, it would be a significant coup for the North London outfit. The former midfielder is known for his tactical acumen and excellent man-management skills, and his arrival could be the catalyst for a new era of success at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Leverkusen still in contention for the Europa League trophy, Alonso is unlikely to make any concrete decisions about his future until the season comes to a close. Hence, Tottenham will have to play the waiting game.

If, for some reason, Tottenham fails to land Alonso, the club has supposedly identified Arne Slot as their second choice. The Feyenoord manager has guided his team to the brink of the Eredivisie title this season and would be an excellent candidate to take over at Tottenham.

The problem with both the aforementioned names is that they lack experience at the top level. It is a gamble that Tottenham cannot afford to take and they would be better off appointing someone like Julian Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique.
