Spurs News: Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa plot swoop for Leicester City’s Harvey Barnes
Aston Villa have been named as a potential suitor for Tottenham Hotspur target and Leicester City star Harvey Barnes.
This is according to the Daily Mail, via the Sun, who state that Barnes and James Maddison could both leave the Foxes this summer. Leicester’s safety in the Premier League is under threat.
Maddison, who has also been linked with a move to Spurs, will enter the final year of his deal this summer. Barnes’ situation is a bit more relaxed from Leicester’s point of view considering his deal runs until June 2025.
Nevertheless, the two English stars could seriously consider their future at the King Power Stadium. One can imagine their potential urge to join a bigger club would increase if their team drops to the Championship this season.
Leicester are currently 16th in the league with just 30 points from 34 league games. They only lead 18th-placed Nottingham Forest on goal difference.
What should Spurs do?
If Spurs have a choice, then they should look to add Maddison to their ranks considering we lack a strictly attack-minded playmaker in midfield, who can also double up as a winger.
Barnes, in that regard, is much more direct. The 25-year-old has pace to burn and is known for his incisive and incessant attacking runs down the left-hand side, where we don’t have competition for Son Heung-min.
On paper, signing the two Leicester City stars would be a great scenario. Both are tried and tested in the Premier League and are at an age where they are in the prime of their careers.
If Leicester City are relegated, Spurs’ chances of signing the duo should increase. As for Aston Villa’s interest in Barnes, we will have to be mindful of the situation.
