Tottenham Hotspur handed Clement Lenglet injury boost for Aston Villa encounter
Ryan Mason confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Clement Lenglet suffered a shoulder issue in our latest 1-0 Premier League win against Crystal Palace.
The Barcelona loanee entered the starting XI in place of Eric Dier. He played 88 minutes and was important in Spurs keeping a clean sheet to protect a slender lead handed to us by Harry Kane’s goal.
Mason said after the game:
“He had a shoulder problem, you could probably see. Hopefully nothing too serious, too bad. He got treatment on the pitch, it was late on in the game, it was a set piece and we didn’t really want to lose a central defender to defend a set piece so we made that change
Now, Football.London have claimed that the French defender could return in time to be in contention to face Aston Villa in the Premier League at Villa Park on May 13.
Lenglet boost for Spurs
They say Mason has received positive news on Lenglet’s shoulder muscle injury and it is not serious. This is certainly good news for us with just three games remaining this season.
It is highly unlikely that Liverpool slip from fifth, who lead us by five points with three games remaining, so UEFA Europa Conference League football is the best we may have to settle for. But it is important to finish the season on a high.
It could be an audition period for our players before the next permanent head coach comes in. In Lenglet’s case, he may not be here next season considering his loan expires this summer.
However, it has been claimed that Barcelona and Spurs could discuss a permanent move for the player to N17 at the end of the season. Clement Lenglet has been good whenever he has played this season.

The left-footed centre-back is not shabby with his passing skills and has impressive defensive acumen. He isn’t bad at all for squad depth and for giving competition to our first-choice centre-backs. Some would even say he is better than Eric Dier and deserves to start over him more often.
