Chelsea shot-stopper Edouard Mendy on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar
Edouard Mendy, who plays for Premier League rivals Chelsea, is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur ahead of next summer, according to The Sun.
Hugo Lloris is the current number one at the Lilywhites. However, the French national is expected to depart the North London side after over a decade of service in between the sticks for us.
As a result, Spurs are eyeing a replacement for the 36-year-old. To that end, the Blues’ Senegalese goalkeeper is being eyed. The 31-year-old is expected to part ways with the Stamford Bridge side in the upcoming transfer window.
Tottenham scouts have been monitoring the former Stade Rennais star for some time now. At the moment, he is involved in a contract standoff with the West London-based club.
Mendy signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2020. He immediately made an impact at the Stamford Bridge side and became the number one. In his debut campaign at the Blues, the shot-stopper lifted the Champions League.
However, Kepa Arrizabalaga has once again been the first choice at the West London club this season and has pipped the Senegal international in the pecking order. As a result, the 31-year-old has hardly featured in the last few months.
Lloris has given his best years to Tottenham. Unfortunately, the 36-year-old’s age seems to have caught up to him. The veteran goalkeeper’s displays in recent years have left a lot to be desired.
But on the bench, Spurs do not have a lot of options in the goalkeeping department. Fraser Forster, who we signed last summer, has been our number two in the current campaign.
