Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Eric Dier undergoes surgery for groin injury
Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier has undergone groin surgery for a persistent injury that had been niggling him for most of the season, according to The Athletic.
As things stand, it is unclear how long the defender will be out of action. The England international has been ruled out of the North London side’s final match of the campaign against Leeds United.
For several months now, the 29-year-old has been carrying the fitness issues and playing through the pain. However, the centre-back finally decided to go under the knife and will now begin his rehabilitation.
Dier has been ever-present in Tottenham’s team since signing from Sporting CP in the summer of 2014. The English national’s versatility has seen him play as a midfield pivot as well as a right-back and central defender.
Unfortunately, the defender has been inconsistent at Spurs over the years. The 29-year-old has found himself in and out of the team due to his topsy-turvy form.
In the current campaign, Dier has been a pivotal member of the starting lineup. However, the North London side’s defence has looked shaky. We have been unable to keep clean sheets and hold onto leads.
The English national has been found wanting on a number of occasions. Our centre-backs, especially the 29-year-old, have left a lot to be desired at times.
We have Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Clement Lenglet and Davinson Sanchez in our ranks as well. In recent weeks Dier has not played as much. Against Brentford, Ryan Mason opted to play a back four and the English national was on the bench.

Hopefully, the 29-year-old’s recovery will go smoothly and he will be available for pre-season. It remains to be seen what the future will hold for the defender, with Tottenham set to appoint a new manager.
