Jose Mourinho reveals he feels no affection towards Tottenham Hotspur
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has revealed that the North London side are the only club he feels no affection towards.
The Portuguese was appointed in Spurs’ dugout after we parted ways with Mauricio Pochettino. After almost a year and a half in charge of the Lilywhites, Daniel Levy opted to get rid of the experienced head coach.
Speaking to the media via Metro, Mourinho looked back on his time at Tottenham. However, the North London side are the one team out of the several the Portuguese has managed where he does not sense a connection.
“The reality is that… I hope the Tottenham fans don’t get me wrong but the only club in my career where I don’t have still a deep feeling for is Tottenham.
“Probably because the stadium was empty, Covid time. Probably because Mr Levy didn’t let me win a final and win a trophy.”
Soon after the 60-year-old took the reins at the North London side, the world faced the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, we had a break in the middle of the season, and when football resumed, the stadiums were ordered to be empty.
There were also some who were not too thrilled about the Portuguese. The experienced head coach has previously managed our London rivals Chelsea as well as Manchester United.
Therefore, the fans can be forgiven for not being fond of Mourinho either. Also, under the Portuguese, Tottenham did not play the most attractive brand of football.
But the 60-year-old still had us close to a trophy. We face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final in the 2020/21 season. However, the former Real Madrid head coach was relieved of his duties just before our 1-0 loss to the Sky Blues.
Mourinho is currently at AS Roma. The Portuguese won the UEFA Conference League with the Giallorossi last season. In the current campaign, he has the Serie A giants in the Europa League final.
