Galatasaray meet Tottenham Hotspur for midfielder Pape Matar Sarr

Super Lig club Galatasaray have apparently held their first meeting with Tottenham Hotspur to discuss the transfer of midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

This is according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, who claim that the 20-year-old midfielder is of interest to Gala. It isn’t clarified if a permanent or a loan move was discussed.

Given that Sarr was signed only in the summer of 2021, and was loaned back to FC Metz for a season, it would make sense if Spurs and Galatasaray discussed a loan move for him. He hasn’t had much luck at Tottenham this season.

Injuries, particularly to Rodrigo Bentancur, afforded some playing time to the Senegal international in the second half of the season. Even then, he managed just 189 minutes of first-team action in the Premier League this term.

Sarr off to Turkey?

It is clear that he still has a long way to go before he can be considered a regular first-team player for us. It remains to be seen if our new manager, whoever that may be, chooses to trust the youngster and keep him here.

Otherwise, it would be wise to loan him out to a team where he can play regularly and develop his skills. It wasn’t a pretty sight seeing him warm the benches this season.

It’s like wasting a young talent. Galatasaray are a top club that can provide him first-team minutes in a competitive league where the level of opposition would also be decent.

This is a deal Spurs should conclude to provide Sarr with some much-needed minutes. They must, however, understand that the former Metz midfielder shouldn’t be offloaded permanently, as there is still a lot of untapped potential in him.
