Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United tracking Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan
Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Newcastle United and AS Roma are said to be interested in a move to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Hwang Hee-chan, as per the Mirror.
The 27-year-old South Korea international has had a poor season so far, finding the back of the net just four times in 31 games across competitions. He is currently playing for a Wolves side who are 13th in the table with one game left in the season.
They apparently want to avoid financial fair play issues and are already primed to lose some of their key stars this summer. Ruben Neves is attracting interest from Manchester United and Barcelona while Matheus Nunes is wanted by Liverpool.
Hwang, who would be well known by his international teammate Son Heung-min, is a talented striker who is fairly fast, can dribble well and excels at holding the ball further up the pitch. His contract, however, has a little over three years left on it (Transfermarkt).
Spurs should stay clear
In many ways, he would be a very smart signing as a backup for Harry Kane, and can also be partnered with the England international in attack at times. But this is where the problem lies.
The 29-year-old could leave Spurs this summer, with his contract expiring in 2024. If that happens, Hwang should not be the signing we make to replace a club legend and goal machine like Kane.
In that situation, it wouldn’t be unwise to sign the former RB Leipzig striker, but only as a player who will add quality and depth to the bench. Of course, he can be a success as a first-team player too.

Teams like AS Roma and Villa can offer him first-team football. But at Spurs, we must keep the standard very high for a first-team starter. Hopefully, Kane pens a new deal (as unlikely as that may seem right now) and we don’t have to worry about the centre-forward situation for a few more years.
