Tottenham Hotspur eye free transfer for Fulham winger Manor Solomon
Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the possibility of signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Manor Solomon, who is on loan at Fulham, for a free transfer this summer.
This is according to the Athletic (Subscription Required), who cite a recent statement from FIFA to explain the 23-year-old’s situation at Shakhtar. His deal with the Ukrainian giants expires on 31 December 2023.
He was allowed to suspend his contract with them last summer and join Fulham on a season-long loan deal. Solomon will be allowed to do that once again after a recent FIFA ruling said:
“In order to protect foreign players and coaches who have left the territory of Ukraine or Russia due to the conflict and who do not wish to currently return in view of the circumstances, those players and coaches will have the right to unilaterally suspend their employment contracts with clubs affiliated to the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) or the Football Union of Russia (FUR) until 30 June 2024, provided that the clubs are duly informed of the suspension in writing by 1 July 2023.”
This would surely cost the clubs in Ukraine and Russia a fair bit of money. But for Spurs, it could be a situation worth taking advantage of.
When Solomon suspends his contract at Shakhtar, which he intends to do, his deal with the Ukrainian giants will lapse and he will become a free agent this summer. Spurs are said to be keen on signing him on a permanent transfer.
The Israel international has made a big impression in England this season, scoring five times in 23 games for the Cottagers. He has a bit of everything – from pace to dribbling to his playmaking skills.

He can be honed into a quality player by whoever takes charge of Spurs next. Solomon can be used to provide depth down the flanks for Son Heung-min and Richarlison and would be especially useful if Dejan Kulusevski’s transfer from Juventus doesn’t become permanent.
