Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur ‘pushing hardest’ for Leicester City forward Harvey Barnes
Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League rivals Newcastle United are the two teams ‘pushing hardest’ to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City, according to The Sun.
The Foxes were relegated from the English top flight despite their 2-1 win over West Ham United in the final game of the season. As a result, now, the England international and teammate James Maddison are set to leave the King Power Stadium side.
To that end, the North London side and Eddie Howe’s team have the Leicester duo on their radar. Both are expected to be available for a price tag of around £40 million each.
The Foxes have endured a gruelling campaign. They started off poorly under Brendan Rodgers. The Northern Irish head coach subsequently parted ways with the East Midlands-based club. However, Dean Smith was unable to keep the club in the PL.
Despite Leicester’s poor season, Barnes has shone. The 25-year-old was the Foxes’ talisman, finding the back of the net 13 times in 34 appearances in the English top flight.
Newcastle have been the surprise package of the 2022/23 campaign. The Tyneside outfit will be playing in the Champions League next season. Their forward line consists of the likes of Alexander Isak, Callum Wilson, and Allan Saint-Maximin, amongst others.

On the other hand, Tottenham have an abundance of talent in the attack as well. But Harry Kane has been the only positive of the campaign for the North London side.
Apart from the English skipper, none of the other players up front lived up to expectations. Son Heung-min, Dejam Kulusevski, and Richarlison have been inconsistent and underwhelming.

Barnes is an exciting talent with a lot of potential. The forward still has room for improvement. Will the 25-year-old further develop at the North London side or Newcastle? Only time will tell.
