Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse
Tottenham Hotspur, along with Premier League rivals Arsenal, are interested in Southampton star James Ward-Prowse, according to Spanish outlet todo fichajes.
The England international is expected to leave the Saints in the upcoming transfer window after their relegation from the English top flight. A number of teams have the midfielder on their radar.
To that end, he has received several attractive offers to jump ship ahead of next summer. Apart from the two North London rivals, Everton have also expressed a strong desire to acquire the 28-year-old’s services.
Ward-Prowse has spent his entire career so far at Southampton. The midfielder made his way through the youth ranks at the St Mary’s Stadium side and has developed into one of their best players.
Over the years, the English national’s influence at the Hampshire-based club has only grown and he has also been handed the captain’s armband. But despite the 28-year-old’s best efforts, the Saints could not survive the drop in the current campaign.
In the last few years, Ward-Prowse has made a name for himself as a set-piece specialist. The midfielder can do wonders with a dead ball. In 45 appearances in all competitions this season, the English national found the back of the net 11 times and provided five assists.

Tottenham’s engine room was bolstered with the arrival of Yves Bissouma last summer. However, the former Brighton & Hove Albion star has been unable to live up to expectations.
On the other hand, we have Rodrigo Bentancur as our only established midfielder who is attack-minded. As for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, they are not known for their ability to unlock defences.

Therefore, a player like Ward-Prowse could evidently add much-needed quality to our engine room. But it remains to be seen whether the 28-year-old will choose Spurs.
Arsenal are a more attractive proposition right now. The Gunners went toe-to-toe with Manchester City in the PL and will be playing Champions League football next season.
