Darren Bent urges Manchester United star Harry Maguire to join Tottenham

Speaking to Talksport, former Premier League striker Darren Bent has urged exit-bound Manchester United defender Harry Maguire to join Tottenham and do a job here at the N17.

The 30-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, finding himself behind the likes of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez. Poor form and costly mistakes has seen him being relegated to a bench warmer now.

In light of these developments, former Premier League striker Darren Bent has made a surprising claim, suggesting that Maguire could find a new home at Tottenham Hotspur.

“He could do a job there (Spurs). They need defenders and he would start there in a back three.”

Tottenham have experienced defensive vulnerabilities throughout the season, and it is clear that improvements are required at the back. However, signing an inconsistent defender like Harry Maguire might not be the ideal solution for the North London club.

The England international has faced significant criticism due to his error-prone performances at Manchester United. Bringing in a player of his caliber could potentially backfire and undermine Tottenham’s defensive stability.

Moreover, there is the issue of Maguire’s substantial wages. The defender currently is a high earner at Manchester United, which might exceed Tottenham’s financial capabilities. The player though might be willing to take a pay cut.

While Maguire showcased his defensive prowess during his time at Leicester City, commanding an £80m transfer fee, it is essential to consider the player’s current state. His performances have left much to be desired, and his confidence appears to have taken a hit.

At 30 years old, it is unlikely that he will experience significant improvements or reach the level he displayed earlier in his career. With Cristian Romero already in our ranks, Tottenham should set their sights on securing a reliable defensive partner who can elevate the team’s overall performance.

As the transfer window approaches, it will be intriguing to see where Maguire ultimately ends up this summer. We hope it’s not at Tottenham but only time will tell how this pans out.
