Lucas Moura reflects on “frustrating” final season at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has shared his disappointment with the “frustrating” final season at the North London side.
The Brazil international is set to leave the Lilywhites in the coming weeks when his current contract will expire. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old endured a difficult campaign due to injuries and Spurs’ overall poor form.
Speaking to Spanish outlet Diario AS, Moura is not too pleased with how his stint at Tottenham has ended. The forward believes a lack of consistency cost the North London side this season.
“It was a very difficult season for the team, it ended up being frustrating. The expectation was very high. The main problem was irregularity. There was a lack of regularity in the team and that cost us a lot.”
Moura made his way to Spurs in the winter window of 2018 before permanently signing for us that summer. In previous campaigns, the Brazilian had been a regular in our starting lineup. But in this term, he hardly got on the pitch and fitness issues did not help the winger’s cause either.
The 30-year-old’s pace and energy up front have seen him be involved in some iconic moments, none greater than our comeback against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League semi-final in the 2018/19 season.
Moura came on as a substitute in the second half against the Eredivisie outfit and scored a hattrick to complete a comeback after going two goals down.
The Brazilian signed off by getting onto the scoresheet in his final game for Tottenham. Against Leeds United, the 30-year-old came on in the second half and scored in stoppage time as Spurs won 4-1.
For now, the North London side have Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison up front. Therefore, we seemingly have enough depth in the attack as things stand.
