Tottenham Hotspur line up surprise £50m swoop for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho
Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a £50million offer for Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, as per the Daily Star.
If it does materialise, it would be a surprise move indeed. Manchester United, after all, paid around £73million to sign him in the summer of 2021. Two years later, at the age of just 23, it seems that his career at Old Trafford is hanging in the balance.
Sancho still has three years left on his deal. Manchester United are believed to be looking for a fee of £60million for Sancho.
Makes sense if you see it from Manchester United’s point of view. They invested heavily in him. He is still young and has the raw minerals to be a prolific winger.
What next for Sancho?
Moreover, he is a homegrown player. From Spurs’ perspective, of course, the price tag can be a bit lower. The Red Devils are demanding a fee not far from what they paid for him in 2021.
He now has two years less on his deal and isn’t a player that has been a constant fixture in Erik ten Hag’s starting XI. Now, Dejan Kulusevski’s permanent transfer from Juventus is yet to be officially confirmed.
That is a saga that just keeps on going even after Ange Postecoglu’s appointment. Richarlison, meanwhile, isn’t really a natural right-winger. In the event that Deki doesn’t stay here, it’s a smart strategy to go after Sancho.
But the question would then arise – why not just pay the £27.7million fee to sign the Sweden international permanently? He has been here for 18 months now and proven that he is a fit for this Spurs side in the Premier League.
Sancho, not so much.
