Brentford striker Ivan Toney responds when asked if he wants Tottenham Hotspur transfer
Ivan Toney has given his take on a potential move from Brentford to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The English striker is currently in the middle of serving an eight-month ban handed by the FA for betting breaches. His form on the pitch has been brilliant for a while.
This season, Toney netted 21 goals and provided five assists in 35 games across competitions. The big boys in the Premier League would always take notice of such numbers.
Moreover, at 27, he is in the prime years of his career. He was recently speaking to Kick Game on YouTube with host Craig Mitch. Mitch asked Toney to name his favourite strikers of all time.
Toney to Spurs?
Curiously, the Englishman went with Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe – two iconic Spurs strikers. The host then jokingly asked if it meant Toney wants a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. To that, he replied:
“They have got one of the best strikers [Harry Kane] already…”
That we do, but Harry Kane’s future at Spurs is up in the air. His contract expires in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) but he is yet to pen fresh terms with the Lilywhites.
If so, Toney is not a bad option. He has two years on Kane and while he may not be as complete or as prolific as the Spurs superstar (hardly anyone would be in world football), he can do a decent job here.

Even if Kane stays, a player like Toney would be ideal to add competition in Ange Postecoglous’s team. But then again, it would be hard to imagine the in-form Bees striker will settle for anything apart from a regular first-team position.
