Mark Wilson believes that Ange Postecoglou will want Tottenham to sign Kyogo Furuhashi
Speaking to the Herald, Mark Wilson, a former Celtic defender, has expressed his belief that Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur, will have his eyes set on bringing Kyogo Furuhashi to the North London club.
Furuhashi’s remarkable performances for Celtic during the 2022-23 season did not go unnoticed, as he clinched the prestigious Player of the Year Award and the Golden Boot, having netted an impressive 34 goals across various competitions.
While Spurs are said to be interested in the 28-year-old forward, they face competition from other clubs such as Lazio in Serie A, as well as several French and Spanish teams, all closely monitoring the situation.
Considering Postecoglou’s arrival at Tottenham, Wilson believes that Furuhashi would be a valuable asset in the Australian manager’s quest to implement an intense pressing game.
The pundit emphasized that Kyogo Furuhashi played an instrumental role at Celtic under Postecoglou, acting as the catalyst for the team’s success. His influence was evident in his style of play and his character, which set the tone for a Postecoglou-led team.
In Wilson’s view, Furuhashi’s potential transfer to Tottenham would not make him the star striker if Harry Kane remains at the club, but he would serve as a vital example for the other players, showcasing the pressing style that Postecoglou favours.
Here is what Wilson had to say about the talented forward and why he thinks he could end up at Tottenham
“Kyogo was brought in and was the catalyst for everything that happened at Celtic. Ange Postecoglou made everybody aware of that, Kyogo was the signing that kicked everything off. He would maybe not be the star striker if Harry Kane’s still kicking about, but as someone who can show the others how Postecoglou wants to play”
Ultimately, the ball is now in Tottenham’s court, and fans eagerly await to see if Postecoglou’s reported interest in Furuhashi materializes into a concrete offer. In the meantime, Celtic supporters will hope that their star forward remains at the club.
