Aston Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur to Jamaldeen Jimoh signing
Aston Villa have apparently beaten Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign talented West Bromwich Albion youngster Jamaldeen Jimoh.
According to BirminghamMail, the Villans have agreed to pay a £1million fee to Albion for the 16-year-old central midfielder. Furthermore, they will pocket 10% of whatever fee Villa sell Jimoh for in the future.
Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were also keeping an eye on the youngster. But apparently, Aston Villa have agreed to a fee structure that Spurs didn’t want to match.
Jimoh would qualify as a homegrown player given he is from England. He would have been a nice young prospect to sign and develop in our elite academy.
Bigger things to focus on
But Aston Villa could offer him the pedestal he needs to break through in the first team over the years and then potentially earn a move elsewhere. Villa are in the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.
Spurs aren’t even in Europe. But the fact of the matter is, players like Carney Chukwuemeka and Jack Grealish have used them as a stepping stone. But then again, Jimoh should be the least of our senior team’s concerns.
Of course, the U17 England international would have made for a good addition to our U18 or Premier League 2 sides. But the focus for the senior team should be to sign world-class defenders, a new goalkeeper and possibly an experienced midfielder.

Ange Postecoglou will have fresh faces to manage here, including two midfielders that are proud graduates of Tottenham’s academy – Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks. Even if one of them unfurls their potential under the Australian manager, we would have struck gold.
