Journalist Gianluigi Longari claims Roma have pipped Tottenham to Evan Ndicka

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Evan Ndicka appears to have hit a stumbling block as the defender seems poised to join Jose Mourinho’s Roma instead.

RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins recently revealed that Tottenham had been in contact with Ndicka, but it seems the talented defender has set his sights on a move to the Italian capital.

Ndicka, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, is set to become a free agent this summer after deciding to part ways with his current club. Hawkins added that offers from two Italian giants, AC Milan and Roma, were on the table for the 21-year-old centre-back.

While it remains uncertain whether Tottenham progressed to the stage of making a formal contract offer to Evan Ndicka, it appears that the financial superiority of Roma’s proposal has swayed the defender’s decision.

According to Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari, Ndicka has made up his mind and chosen Roma as his next destination. This means that Tottenham have missed out on yet another of their transfer targets.

Longari further revealed that Roma had been actively pursuing Ndicka for several months and have now successfully secured his signature. The Italian club has also managed to acquire Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar on a free transfer, demonstrating their shrewd business dealings in the transfer market.

With the Ndicka deal falling through, Tottenham find themselves back to square one in their search for a left-footed defender. The 6’4″ Frenchman would have been an affordable addition to the squad and a welcome boost to manager Ange Postecoglou’s defensive options.

One potential alternative for Tottenham is the permanent signing of loanee Clement Lenglet. The Barcelona centre-back has spent the season on loan at Tottenham and has shown promise during his time at the club. Lenglet’s familiarity with the team and the Premier League could make him a viable candidate for a long-term defensive solution.
