Manchester United are interested in Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison
Premier League rivals Manchester United have identified Leicester City star and Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison as an alternative target, according to The Sun (h/t Metro).
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Chelsea’s Mason Mount. However, there are growing fears from the Old Trafford side regarding not being able to acquire the 24-year-old’s services this summer.
To that end, Maddison is on Man United’s radar as a potential Plan B. The England international is expected to depart the Foxes in the upcoming transfer window after their relegation from the Premier League.
The playmaker’s current contract with the King Power Stadium side is set to expire at the end of next season. But still, the East Midlands-based club want at least £50 million for the 26-year-old.
Despite Leicester’s poor campaign, Maddison shone. In the English top flight, the midfielder made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, finding the back of the net 10 times and providing nine assists.
As things stand, Newcastle United are the frontrunners to acquire the English national’s services. However, Spurs are also in the running to get a hold of the 26-year-old’s signature.
But the Magpies and the Old Trafford side will be able to offer Champions League football. As for us, we finished eighth in the league in the 2022/23 campaign.
Tottenham struggled to be consistent after a promising start last season. Antonio Conte was unable to make us defensively resolute. In the middle of the park, the North London side left a lot to be desired in terms of creativity.

Rodrigo Bentacur’s injury left us with midfielders who are more defensively-minded. Therefore, Spurs evidently need to add more quality in the engine room to help feed the forward line. But whether we will be able to beat the rest of the competition for Maddison remains to be seen.
