Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg faces uncertain future under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg faces an uncertain future at the club with the arrival of Ange Postecoglou, according to The Sun.
The Denmark international’s future at the North London side is in the balance ahead of the upcoming transfer window. At the moment, the midfielder is on international duty as the Red and Whites are set to take on Northern Ireland and Slovenia in the Euro 2024 qualifiers.
As things stand, the 27-year-old still has two years left on his current contract. However, it remains to be seen whether the former Southampton star will fulfil his deal with the Lilywhites.
Postecoglou is set to take charge of Tottenham on 1 July officially. It remains to be seen whether Hojbjerg will be part of the Australian head coach’s plans in the coming months.
Spurs signed the Danish national in the summer of 2020. Since then, the midfielder has been a key part of the North London side’s starting lineup.
While the 27-year-old is mostly considered a defensive midfielder, last season, he showcased his attacking prowess. The former Saints star made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites, finding the back of the net five times and providing seven assists.
Tottenham have other defensive-minded midfielders in their ranks as well. Yves Bissouma joined the North London side last summer. While the Mali international was underwhelming in his first year at the club, the 26-year-old showcased his talent at Brighton & Hove Albion.
On the other hand, we also have Oliver Skipp in our ranks. The 22-year-old became a key player for Spurs in the second half of the 2022/23 campaign. What Tottenham seemingly lack is someone who can bring creativity to the middle of the park.
