Manchester United still in the hunt for Tottenham target David Raya
According to the Telegraph (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are still in the hunt for talented Brentford goalie David Raya who Tottenham Hotspur also want.
Raya, who currently plays for Brentford, has emerged as one of the most promising shot-stoppers in English football. With just one year left on his contract, the 27-year-old is set to leave the Bees this summer, igniting a transfer race among top clubs.
There was strong speculation about Tottenham’s strong interest in securing Raya’s services, and negotiations between the two clubs are already underway. However, Brentford are holding out for a hefty £40 million fee, while Spurs are keen to negotiate a lower price.
In a surprising twist, Manchester United have now entered the race for David Raya. The Red Devils have a long-standing interest in the talented goalkeeper and are considering hijacking the deal from under Tottenham’s nose.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, is keen on bringing in a goalkeeper who excels in playing out from the back, and Raya perfectly fits the bill. The Spanish custodian’s ball-playing abilities make him an attractive prospect for the Red Devils, who have already offered a contract extension to their current goalkeeper, David de Gea.
Although de Gea is expected to sign the extension soon, there are no guarantees that he will remain as the first-choice goalkeeper. Manchester United is primarily focused on bolstering their attacking and midfield options for the upcoming season but will be ready to swoop in for Raya if Tottenham fails to secure the deal in time.
Tottenham’s pursuit of Raya comes at a time when their long-serving goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, is expected to seek a new challenge elsewhere. After 11 successful years at the North London club, the 36-year-old Frenchman has hinted at his desire to explore new opportunities following a season marred by errors.
As the transfer window progresses, Tottenham finds themselves in a race against time to secure Raya’s signature. With Manchester United lurking in the background, the London club must act swiftly and find a resolution with Brentford to avoid missing out on the talented Spanish goalkeeper.
