Tottenham are planning a €5 million bid for Barcelona star Clement Lenglet
According to Spanish publication SPORT, Tottenham Hotspur are planning a low-ball € 5 million bid for Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet.
Lenglet’s loan spell at Tottenham was met with relative success. Although the team experienced defensive vulnerabilities throughout the season, the 27-year-old centre-back showcased his abilities and demonstrated his value on the pitch.
It was officially confirmed a couple of days ago by Tottenham that Clement Lenglet will be leaving the club and returning to Barcelona following the conclusion of his loan spell. Spurs did not have a buy option included in his original agreement and it comes as no surprise that he was sent back.
Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez see no future for Lenglet at the Catalan club and the club are more than willing to open talks with Tottenham to see if they can reach an agreement for his sale.
Tottenham’s need for defensive reinforcements is no secret. Their defensive line was often exposed and susceptible to conceding goals last season, highlighting the need for solid reinforcements.
Furthermore, the potential departures of Davinson Sanchez and Japhet Tanganga have further heightened the urgency for Tottenham to bolster their defensive options. With Cristian Romero as the only reliable defender at the club, Tottenham will prioritize strengthening their central defence this summer.
Lenglet’s familiarity with Premier League football after his loan spell at Tottenham last season makes him an attractive option for the club. If the €5 million deal goes through, it could prove to be a steal for Tottenham.
Barcelona are desperate to get Lenglet off their books and at the right price, he’d be a solid acquisition for Tottenham to get. This is one transfer where lowballing the offer might actually work well for Daniel Levy.
