Newcastle growing impatient in pursuit of Tottenham target James Maddison
Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison is also being pursued by Newcastle United, as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The talented English midfielder saw his team, Leicester City, get relegated from the Premier League last season. A player of his ilk doesn’t belong in the Championship.
And that is what would provide an additional boost to his suitors. Maddison can succeed at a team like Tottenham Hotspur or Newcastle United – two teams looking to challenge for trophies.
According to Romano, Newcastle will insist on signing Maddison this week itself as they are growing impatient in their pursuit of the midfielder. It makes sense.
Maddison to Spurs?
No team would have all the time in the world to waste on chasing one single player. Sky Sports, meanwhile, claim that the Foxes will ask for £50million+ for the 26-year-old star.
Newcastle, backed by their Saudi owners, have financial might not many teams can match. They also have UEFA Champions League football to offer next season – making them a desirable destination for more than one reason.
But Spurs are a more settled big six club with arguably a wider global reach. We have players such as Harry Kane, Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min that Maddison can play alongside.
Sure, Newcastle are a club on the up and are an exciting project, and that is exactly why Daniel Levy and co. must hurry and make a sensible offer for Maddison. Hopefully, given their relegation and the players’ potential desire to play at the top level, they will be open to bringing down that price tag to some extent.

He also has just one year left on his contract (Transfermarkt) so it is brave of Leicester to place that price tag on him. It would be amusing if they end up losing him for nothing next year.
