Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur make progress regarding Clement Lenglet transfer
Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona have been in contact regarding a move for Clement Lenglet and have made progress to the end, according to Spanish outlet Sport.
Spurs are open to acquiring the defender’s services on a permanent transfer. As things stand, the Balugrana are desperate to get the France international off their books before the end of the month.
Initially, the North London side wanted to get the centre-back on loan once again. However, the Camp Nou side want to part ways with the 28-year-old once and for all in the ongoing transfer window.
Tottenham are willing to offer Lenglet a five-year deal to compensate for a lower salary. However, to that end, the North London side will then only offer Barcelona €5 million to get a hold of the defender’s signature.
In the summer of 2018, the Balugrana signed the French national from Sevilla. After a couple of decent campaigns at the Camp Nou side, the centre-back’s performances deteriorated.
Then, last summer, the Catalan outfit added Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen to their ranks. Subsequently, the 28-year-old was deemed surplus to requirements and was shipped to Spurs on a temporary move without a purchase option.
Lenglet made 35 appearances in all competitions last season for Tottenham. The North London side did not have the best of campaigns and struggled defensively. On occasions, the French national made some silly errors.
Cristian Romero and Eric Dier were underwhelming as well. We had three different managers in the 2022/23 campaign but were unable to put in solid displays.

While Lenglet still has to prove himself at Spurs to attain a starting berth, the 28-year-old is a decent backup option to have. If we are able to get him on a cut-price deal, then all the better for us.
