Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on a deal with Empoli for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario
According to the Express, Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is set to undergo his medical of becoming a Tottenham Hotspur player for the coming season.
Spurs’ search for a goalkeeper has ended, and Vicario is seen as the chosen one to replace Hugo Lloris as the club’s no.1.
Lloris has been an incredible servant to the club but his injury issues coupled with his age aggravated the fact that the club needs a new keeper for the coming season.
While still a relatively unknown name outside Italy, Vicario has earned rave reviews for his performances for Empoli this season.
Spurs are set to agree to a deal of £16.4million plus add-ons for the 26-year-old shot-stopper who would be the second signing for the club following Dejan Kulusevski’s permanent move from Juventus.
It is turning out to be a decent start to the summer transfer window for us with key deficiencies in the squad being ironed out. One of the major talking factors of the summer window would be the future of talisman Harry Kane, who has one year remaining on his contract.
It seems more and more likely with each passing month that the England captain will not sign a contract extension and hence the club could end up losing him out on a free transfer next season.
It is one of the biggest dilemmas surrounding Daniel Levy as he could recoup a big amount for Kane and reinvest in the squad or end up losing him for free. Moreover, we have seemingly signed Vicario for a decent fee – £16.4million.
So, that’s one major squad position filled without a massive outlay. Hence, fans will now want the club to cough up big bucks if Kane does end up leaving now.

There would be more clarity once the pre-season starts and whether new manager Ange Postecouglou could convince the forward to see out his career at Spurs. For now, at least Spurs fans can rejoice that the club are set to sign a new goalkeeper who can potentially be an upgrade on the out-of-form and recently injury-prone Lloris.
