Tottenham Hotspur have held talks to sign Micky van de Ven
Tottenham Hotspur have apparently held talks with Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven’s agents over a potential summer transfer.
This claim comes from Fabrizio Romano, who collaborated with the Guardian on the report. Van de Ven is a versatile defender.
Fans would remember Spurs’ urgency to need a left-sided centre-back during Antonio Conte’s time. Such was our desperation that Ben Davies played as a left-sided centre-half under him.
Van de Ven can play in that position, given he is a left-footed player — a valued commodity in today’s game. He is just 22 years old and is still honing his game at Wolfsburg.

Hence, he could make for a smart addition who can provide depth in the present and be an important player for us in the future. Of course, it remains to be seen if we actually liked what his agents had to say and if we will make a move for him.
But those are good first signs because it means Spurs realise that they are in need of quality in central defence. One obvious hindrance in our pursuit of the Netherlands international could be his contract.
He is tied down for another four years with Wolfsburg (Transfermarkt), which gives them a considerable say in his future. He finished last season with 36 games across competitions for the Bundesliga side.

Hence, it is clear that he is an important player for them. But with all due respect to Wolfsburg, a move to Spurs could be seen as an upgrade for him, where he can move to a ‘big six’ club in England and make himself a household name.
