Liverpool’s centre-back target Micky van de Ven breaks silence on Tottenham links
Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have both been linked with a move for VfL Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven.
Speaking to Dutch outlet Voetbal International, via Liverpool Echo, he confirmed that he has seen rumours linking him to Spurs. He said:
“I have been forwarded it. I have seen it. [Interest] goes through my agent now. If serious things come up, he will call me.”
At least a potential move to Spurs is now in his head in some capacity. It will be hard for him to break into Liverpool’s starting XI right now with Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in their ranks.
What should Tottenham Hotspur do?
But at Spurs, he can be a partner for Cristian Romero straightaway. Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have been very disappointing in recent years and are not really up to the mark to be a regular starter for us.
And Eric Dier can be upgraded on with a more skilled centre-back. Van de Ven, 22, is still in his formative years but he has been a brilliant presence in Wolfsburg’s backline in recent months.
A move to the Premier League could now be on the cards. The hype around Van de Ven is a little calm right now. We would be wise to sign him at such a time rather than wait for him to become world-class and become unattainable for him. It’s worth the risk.

His contract, though, lasts until the summer of 2027, so we can rest assured the Bundesliga side won’t make him a cheap commodity in the market. It remains to be seen if Spurs make a move for him knowing they could be pitted in a transfer battle against Liverpool — a team he has spoken of very highly in the past.
