Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur in hands of Daniel Levy

Former Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Brad Friedel believes the future of Harry Kane in the ongoing transfer window is in the hands of chairman Daniel Levy.

Premier League rivals Manchester United have the England international on their radar as a top target. Recently, Bayern Munich also had a bid rejected for the 29-year-old by the North London side.

As things stand, Kane has just one year left on his current contract. However, speaking to OLBG (h/t Manchester Evening News), Friedel, who spent four years at Spurs, the English skipper will leave this summer only if Levy wants to let him go.

“The only realistic option for Harry Kane to go is if Daniel Levy says he can leave. Daniel will decide whether or not Kane leaves. I was at the club when two players walked in and said I want to leave, including Luka Modric, and Levy told them to get out.”

It is understandable that the Tottenham chief wants to keep a hold of the striker. He has been our talisman for several years now and has carried the North London side attacking line.

In the previous campaign, the 29-year-old once again showed his importance to the team. He was our only reliable goalscorer, finding the back of the net 30 times in 38 English top-flight appearances.

Also, it would not be wise to sell Kane to a direct rival like Man United. The Red Devils will once again seemingly be one of our competitors in the race for a berth in the top four.

Thankfully, Levy is a tough nut to crack. We have previously accepted bids from the Old Trafford side for the likes of Teddy Sheringham, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov.

However, it does not seem like Spurs’ chief has any intention of doing so with the English skipper. If we do end up losing the 29-year-old, we will evidently need to spend big in order to replace him.

Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski did not live up to expectations in the previous campaign. However, with Kane set to become a free agent next summer, how long will Levy be able to resist offers for him? Only time will tell.
