Tottenham Hotspur are willing to listen to offers for Welsh star Joe Rodon
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are said to be open to the idea of parting ways with Welsh defender Joe Rodon in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old arrived at Spurs from Swansea City in a promising £11 million deal, but his time on the pitch has been limited since then. With only 24 appearances across all competitions, most of which occurred under former manager Jose Mourinho, Rodon’s potential has yet to be fully realised.
Mourinho himself had praised Rodon’s qualities, describing him as the ‘perfect player’ who exhibits tremendous work ethic, youthfulness, and a desire to learn. The Welshman even featured in important matches against some of the toughest opponents, showcasing his potential to make a significant impact.
However, Rodon’s situation changed under Antonio Conte, who did not include him in his plans for the previous campaign. Consequently, the young defender was loaned out to French side Rennes, where he had a poor run.
With the new season on the horizon, Rodon will have a chance to impress the club’s freshly appointed manager, Ange Postecoglou. Known for his expertise in developing young players, Postecoglou may offer Rodon an opportunity to prove himself in the upcoming campaign.
Nevertheless, if the Welsh defender cannot secure increased playing time next season, he may be inclined to explore other avenues. This potential departure, along with the sale of other players, would provide Spurs with a much-needed financial boost to reinvest in the squad.
Tottenham have wasted no time in bolstering their squad during the current transfer window. They have already secured the services of Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, and Manor Solomon, demonstrating their ambition to strengthen the team.
While parting ways with players like Rodon may be a difficult decision, it is essential to make room for new arrivals and revitalise the squad. It could also be the best decision both for the club and the player.

Rodon is still likely to go on and become an impressive player in the future. When Mourinho rates a player highly, he knows what he is doing. It’s just that Tottenham might not be the place for him to thrive after all.
