Richarlison reveals message he sent to Antonio Conte after Tottenham Hotspur sack
Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham Hotspur in November 2021 but signed a contract that would expire in the summer of 2023.
Perhaps it was a sign of things to come — a level of doubt he felt about Tottenham, and he didn’t hide his feelings in subsequent interviews about the level (or the lack of it) at the club.
After a tumultuous few weeks in March, which included a rant from Conte about Spurs’ lack of commitment to winning trophies and their underwhelming history, he was sacked on 27 March (h/t Sky Sports).
Among Conte’s bravest decisions in the transfer windows was his idea to sign Richarlison from Everton. The Brazilian forward cost £60million — a high price but one that kind of made sense given his age and versatility.
Richarlison must fight back
However, the 26-year-old had a terrible season individually. He was booked more times (3) in the Premier League than he scored goals (1) in 27 appearances.
Richarlison believes he let Conte down and played a part in Tottenham’s underwhelming campaign, which finished trophyless. In a recent session on Que Papinho podcast (h/t ESPN), the former Everton forward:
“After they sent him [Antonio Conte] away, I sent him a message. I apologised because he was the guy who asked for me to be hired, and I couldn’t help him as much as he thought I could. The least I could do is apologise for what happened there
Richarlison’s time at Spurs isn’t over. Not by any stretch of the imagination. He has a new manager here in Ange Postecoglou, who would give a fresh slate to all the players in N17.
That can be a good thing for the Brazilian forward. It remains to be seen how the Australian tactician sets up his team, but one can rest assured that Son Heung-min and Harry Kane will be a part of the lineup as long as they are at the club.

Richy can, hence, expect to compete with Dejan Kulusevski with regular minutes, unless Postecoglou somehow finds a way (as hard as it is to imagine) to fit all four in the starting XI.
