Tottenham to rival Newcastle for Joachim Andersen
According to the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-to-head with Newcastle United in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s defensive stalwart, Joachim Andersen, during this summer’s transfer window.
The Lilywhites’ chairman, Daniel Levy, has had his eye on the Danish centre-back ever since his days at Fulham, making him a top target for the North London club. It now looks like they’ll make a move for him.
As the Eagles look to bolster their own transfer kitty, they are open to parting ways with Andersen, albeit at a considerable price. Crystal Palace will demand a hefty fee of around £50 million for the services of the talented defender.
The recently appointed Spurs manager, Ange Postecoglou, is said to be keen on securing the signature of Joachim Andersen. The Australian tactician, known for his possession-based approach, sees Andersen as an ideal fit for his style of play.
The Danish international’s ability to initiate attacks from the backline and remain composed in possession perfectly aligns with the vision Postecoglou has for his team. Tottenham Hotspur has been exceptionally active in the transfer market this summer, as they continue their ambitious rebuild.
Their acquisition of James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon has demonstrated their desire to reinforce their squad. Moreover, they have successfully completed permanent transfers for Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro, further enhancing their attacking options.
However, with their attention now turning towards bolstering their defence, Tottenham have been linked with several other defensive targets alongside Andersen. Micky van de Ven and Edmond Tapsoba have all emerged as potential candidates to solidify the backline.
Among the top-half teams in the league, Spurs had the poorest defensive record, with an alarming 63 goals finding their way past their backline. Bringing in a player of Andersen’s calibre would provide a significant boost to Tottenham’s defensive stability.
