Barcelona join race to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as free agent
Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane is being eyed by Barcelona ahead of becoming a free agent next summer, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required).
As things stand, the England international’s current contract with the North London side is set to expire in a year’s time. Therefore, the 29-year-old would be able to sign for the club of his choosing if Spurs are unable to agree fresh terms.
For now, Bayern Munich are pushing to sign Kane in the ongoing transfer window. However, Tottenham are demanding a £100 million-plus fee for the striker. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Bavarians will match the valuation.
At the moment, the English skipper has the power to decide his future. It would not be a surprise to see teams lining up to acquire the 29-year-old’s services if he does become a free agent.
Apart from Bayern, Paris Saint-Germain also have their eyes on Kane for now. Manchester United have also been touted as one of the forward’s options.
It is interesting to see Barcelona being linked with the English skipper. The Balugrana have an abundance of talent in their attack. They signed Robert Lewandowski last summer. Despite the Polish national’s age, he is still a world-class talent.
With the situation at hand, Tottenham have a big dilemma on their hands. Kane is our talisman. The 29-year-old had led our line for several years now. In the previous campaign, he was our only consistent goalscorer.
However, losing a player like the English national for free is not a wise option, either. At least the North London side would be able to have some funds to reinvest in the squad if they were to part ways with the striker this summer.
