Tottenham Hotspur hold talks with Chelsea for Conor Gallagher
Tottenham Hotspur have apparently held talks with Chelsea for midfielder Conor Gallagher ahead of the new season.
It is a rare concept for players to switch allegiances when it comes to Chelsea and Spurs. Carlo Cudicini and Neil Sullivan have done it in the past two decades, but both on free transfers.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Blues will sell him to Spurs and directly strengthen our midfield. According to the Guardian, there have been contacts between the two London clubs for the 23-year-old midfielder.
Gallagher is a smart box-to-box midfielder with energy and intensity. He can pass and dribble well when in possession and puts in a shift off the ball.
Gallagher to Spurs?
The Englishman is also pretty safe with the ball and most importantly, will add an extra pair of legs in our midfield. He is also a homegrown player, which is always an advantage.
Gallagher still has two years left on his contract (Transfermarkt) and Chelsea are still in pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo, who will cost a pretty penny. So one can imagine the Blues would put a decent price tag on Gallagher.
That is, if they are open to letting another homegrown midfielder leave after Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount. But the fact that the two teams have held conversations over Gallagher means Chelsea are at least not fully against selling him to us.
Moreover, this summer window has indicated that Chelsea are willing to sell players to direct Premier League rivals. Mateo Kovacic moved to Manchester City while Kai Havertz made the controversial switch to Arsenal.
