Ange Postecoglou “happy” with Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is “happy” with the way Giovani Lo Celso has performed since returning to the club this summer.
The Argentina international was on loan at Villarreal for a season and a half before making his way back to the North London side. In the ongoing transfer window, the midfielder was expected to leave the club.
However, the 27-year-old has managed to make a place for himself in the Australian head coach’s plans ahead of next season. In the pre-season fixtures against West Ham United and Lion City Sailors, the playmaker was able to find the back of the net.
Postecoglou has told Lo Celso that he wants him to stay at Tottenham this summer. The former Celtic head coach has the midfielder in his mind going into the 2023/24 term.
Over the years, the Argentina international has been unable to make a big enough impact at Spurs. He found game time hard to come by in the 2020/21 season and was a bit-part player under Antonio Conte.
However, speaking to football.london, the Australian manager hailed the 27-year-old and feels that he fits into the North London side’s current style of play.
“Yeah, I’m really happy with Gio. He’s been really good in training. You can see he’s a quality player and I think the way we play suits him. I’ve enjoyed working with him and I think he’s enjoying himself in terms of the football we want to play and yeah it’s going well.”
Apart from Lo Celso, Postecoglou has also seen the return of Tanguy Ndombele from his temporary move to Napoli. The French national won the Serie A title with the Italian outfit in the previous campaign.
The Australian also has Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur in his ranks. But it remains to be seen whether the gaffer will be able to get the best out of the Argentine.
